Training with Industry Leaders in San Diego
In preparation for the winter months—a typically slower season for detailing in New Jersey—I headed to San Diego to train at Rightlook, a renowned vocational school for auto customization. With over 20+ years of teaching expertise & a state-of-the-art facility, I knew I was in the right place. Over an intensive 2.5-week program, I gained hands-on training and classroom instruction in three advanced skills: automotive tinting, paint protection film (PPF) application, and color-change vinyl wrapping. The training didn’t stop there; I also became certified in caliper painting, rounding out a comprehensive skill set designed to enhance your vehicle’s appearance and longevity.

Gaining Real-World Experience in Los Angeles
After completing my certification, the journey continued with a unique opportunity in Long Beach, where I consulted for a wrap shop owner. My role was to help him integrate full-service detailing into his production-focused operation in LA. In exchange, I gained unlimited access to his shop, allowing me to work with various materials on vehicles, including tint, wraps, and PPF. This hands-on experience honed my skills and deepened my understanding of different techniques and applications. From fully camouflaged chargers to purple Volkswagens and color-changing vinyl Teslas, this was the insight I was seeking. Working daily in a high-demand environment gave me a first-hand account of the nuances of auto customization, from selecting the best materials to achieving flawless finishes. It also reinforced my commitment to bringing these cutting-edge techniques back to the East Coast, ensuring you benefit from the latest advancements in the industry.
Balancing Work and Family
While the trip was heavily focused on professional growth, it also included moments of personal connection. After weeks of training and work, Thanksgiving gave me an opportunity to spend time with my family in Los Angeles. During my downtime, I ceramic-coated my uncle's RV camper & visited other detailers in the area for a chat. We capped off the holiday season with a family trip to Paso Robles for some well-deserved relaxation and wine tasting. This balance between work and family reinvigorated me, ensuring I returned to New Jersey with fresh energy and inspiration.
